In 2005, the Louisiana State Legislature voted to spend $850,000 developing the Fort DeRussy State Historic Site. Unfortunately for us, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita have made the actual arrival of that money extremely questionable. Fact is, that money is Gone with the Wind (wouldn't that be a cool title for a book?).

Friends of Fort DeRussy needs your help. With the Office of State Parks busy rebuilding their old parks, new sites such as Fort DeRussy are on their own. Which means, any improvements done at Fort DeRussy will be done by Friends of Fort DeRussy. That's FFD - which is spelled Y-O-U.

Your membership in FFD means that you will receive our newsletter, but more importantly, it means that your dues will go toward the renovation of Fort DeRussy. Dues go toward acquisition of items for the one-day-to-be-built museum and library, and occasional lobbying of legislators for funds for the fort. In these precarious financial times for this state, this is an essential jobs. State Parks is prohibited by law from doing any lobbying - if the legislature is going to hear about Fort DeRussy, they're going to have to hear it from us.

We'd sure like to have you as a member - you can send a check with your $15 dues to Friends of Fort DeRussy, 7162 Hwy 29, Cottonport, LA  71327. And if you want to make a donation, that's fine, too.

All of our workers are volunteers, and they are not paid. Every once in a while, someone gets reimbursed for expenses, but no one gets paid for their time. So, unbelievably, in this organization 100% of your donations go to furthering the cause of Fort DeRussy. It doesn't get any better than that. Unless you also consider that we are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and your donations are tax deductible. (Tax ID number is 02-0672814)
